Ah, thank you. Oh well, just a one day delay I guess. I'm glad they at least said something

Re: Streets of Rage 4
Wait, SOR4 is slightly delayed on PS4, while us Switch players get to play it earlier? That's no fair.

I managed to get the game on Xbox early and I played almost 7 hours the game is amazing but difficult on normal. Downloading on Steam now.

Has no running mechanism, either.
Co-op is problematic...
Even legit owners in their reviews, state explicitly: SorR V5.1 > Sor4
Maybe i have to test it myself, for a little bit. But i am almost certain i am gonna skip that one. I had high hopes for Lizardcube too, since Wonder Boy was actually great. Too bad.

Just tried it. Complete lack of continue points unlike Fight 'n Rage, and I can't seem to consistently tech throws with Up+Jump.
Upon playing it further, I might prefer the way Cherry plays over other characters. It's cool that you can change characters after clearing each stage like in the Rushing Beat sequels.

Also, there is no way to keep going with a weapon, even if you do not get hit and it stays in your hands, unlike Remake. No options for running and weapons. Lost interest completely.

Cherry has the mobility, and that includes a run.
I'm going to assume that one of the development demands by SEGA was to ignore SoRR, so it would make sense that we haven't seen design iterations from that. SoR 2 seems to be the major influence here.

You can drop weapons at the press of the pickup button, but it seems that you can't toss them away like in 2 and 3, at least I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Weapons can be kept between sections of stage, perhaps with some exceptions.
Forward and B to throw the weapon, or whatever the pick-up button is, forwards and that.

Ah... That makes sense. Too bad, though. Lots of wasted potential, on that one (Sor4).RuffNTumble wrote:Cherry has the mobility, and that includes a run.

Well at least, i didn't rush to instabuy, as i initially had planned. Thankfully at that, too. On the contrary, if we could buy Streets of Rage Remake, i would gladly pay DOUBLE the price that Sor4 costs. It's *THAT* good!!!

Re: Streets of Rage 4
Ms. Y's attire reminds me of Hinako from King of Fighters.
Also, I found the requirements to unlock retro characters, which basically involves accumulating enough lifetime points:

It turns out that the game runs on a Guard Crush Games engine rather than a Lizardcube engine.

Funny you should mention King of Fighters as the commissioner (level 2 boss) has a special attack that reminds me of Rugal's wall slam.
I've decided that he retired from fighting and became a corrupt public servant.

I'm playing with the retro filter for now; I hope pixelated enemy sprites get modded into the game eventually to even out the retro characters.

I gotta say though. This game feels really GOOD. I'm liking the new approach for the Story Mode compared to the previous games. It feels like a new challenge!

Anyone knew some sort of complete list anything in SOR 4 which got inspired by or exclusively in SORR stuff?

Re: Streets of Rage 4
Played the first 2 stages, Xbox One with Gamepass (nice that gamepass finally made it's way to Japan).
My impression so far it's not good at all. I felt a mix of disapointment, frustration and angry.
The Good:
- While it's not my favorite graphic style, the animation is fluid, the combos look cool.
- The "backward" move to hit an enemy behind you works better, in the previous games was many times useless (you used to hit the enemy behind you and open your guard for the one in front of you. Now the move is very fast so you rapidly hit the enemy behind and continue to punish the one in front of you).
- Presentation is good. The story is simple but works perfectly with the tone of the series.
- you can change your character between stages. Amazing idea.
- Up to 4 players simultaneously.
The Bad:
- The gameplay. Started with Axel and then Blaze. Both felt slugish. You have a split second of being stuck between the last punch you thrown and start to move around. It's annoying as hell. It makes the game more difficult than needed because when you're surrounded by 3, 4 enemies, this split second feels like ages, and you're prone to be beaten because of it. Doesn't feel like any of the 3 previous games in terms of gameplay.
- If you punching an enemy, and another enter your punching reach area, he is not hit by your punches and instead, hit you with their move. In the SoR games, if an enemy enter your reach area when you punishing another enemy, both start to be beaten together.
- The soundtrack so far, is terrible. The opening theme is annoying. The first boss and second stage song went dangerously to the SoR3 soundtrack territory. Not as annoying as SoR3 songs, but almost as bad.
- Tried the modern control style. Felt confused like hell with the exclusive button to grab and throw stuff.
- Picked up stars, pressed the star button (RB/R1), and nothing happens. Need to learn whats the use of the stars.
- I haven't played with, but Cherry and Floyd are just meh/rehashe of Skate and Max, apparently..
- The game has a stupid bug where, if your Xbox it's not set to English language, the game get stucked on the start screen.
So far, I'm not liking the game at all, just felt angry, not happy playing it, thanks to the gameplay. I know it's not fair to give a final decision after playing only 2 stages, but I think you better stick with the SoRR, this is the real follow up to the classic games.

Re: Streets of Rage 4
So, I haven't beaten it yet but I really like the game. But it has some really OBVIOUS flaws that j hope they will patch. For one thing, I get they don't want everyone to run (but I would at least like a dash), but they should 100% implement a vertical roll. The defensive dodging of SoR3 is one or the best things about it. Secondly, they need to get rid of those i-frames on the bosses. Holy hell the way the bosses just eat hits and unfairly strike you back is enough to hold this game back. It feels like you just need enough lives to throw at them instead of any strategy

Re: Streets of Rage 4
LoL. I can picture it! Besides, Bombergames worked like 11 years on the project. And they brought together EVERYTHING. All enemies, all players, all stages, even mechanisms from each game, but allowing you to manually choose from, even mix (the options were particularly complex & freedom-giving)!Jericho_mpm wrote:

Not only the run/dash thing is absent, but the weapon style isn't nice, at least for me. In SorR i used to pick one and go as far as i could, without getting hit, sometimes even managed to beat the stage without losing it at all! Here, after a few swings, even if you don't throw it, it's gone!
And they discriminated again against Ash and Roo... The only retro players left outside, not being unlockable, even though they were properly implemented and legit in BKIII. One of the gimmicks that the fangame made me love, is Mr.X being playable and even Elle. One of the standard pairs that i frequently used. And all options for AI helper.
This is a nice braweler, alright, but a terribly SOR entry, in all due honesty. Content is minimal and new enemies lack inspiration and functionality, even (the ones with hands in pocket, who raise their heads towards you, as if they beg to get slapped and punched).
Wouldn't buy even if they paid me to. Getting for free obviously out of the picture (in steam briefly, if you followed the developer, you could win a free copy).

SOR4 copied that from here clearly and it failed on there aspects.
