Holy smokes, good finding here, the faces are literally the same, sega used to use famous people&music in some of their games back in the day, so this comes off as no surprise.

There's something vaguely Native American about that Axel. The face would almost look better on Turok lol Or Simon Belmont from Haunted Castle.
