sad, is there any way to import the files into the new version?
5.2 has as many features as widescreen and the game seems to run much better.

You may play the mods, but mods that require data folder and has custom enemies or items will make everything broken and weird. Not to mention if you play mods widescreen in areas with 320 x 240, it will also look broken.

And many of these mods have been produced along 10+ years of hard work. To make them work in v5.2 means to redo all the custom shit, and definitely we ain't gonna do that.

Besides fuck v5.2, that shit is whack for mods. It's okay for main game but for mods it was the biggest fuck you we modders could get.

Actually, that is NOT true, Final Crash.

Only a few mods released so far were compatible for v5.2, which carried widescreen support.  I can name only a few of them: SoRR 5.2 - 0077 and Terminator II (NES) Remake.  I was planning to create several mods that would take advantage of said feature.

You should watch this space, because there could be another one that ACTUALLY works on the latest version instead of relying on v5.1 (to remedy that, in 5.2, non-widescreen-compatible mods will switch to the regular screen mode when they are being played).
