TMNT: Shredder's Revenge - The modern 2D pixel BTU we were looking for.
Or so I think.
Whereas SORR paved the way from that LONG hiatus to have an original BTU until modern times (our 2020's), SOR4 came up, most of us disappointed with the art direction and style Dotemu went for, yet the game warmed up with the DLC release, making it less lineal (at least in the gameplay department) and with a nice survival mode and practice mode.
Then it came River City Girls. Great game, owerful, stylish. Reviving the Kunio/Double Dragon lore with amazing visuals (finally, pixel art), free roam exploration and with two tough chicks from Tachi no Banka along with the unlockable Kunio and Ricky, game was also an explosion.
But we still didn't have enough.
Here it comes TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. A game that initially appeared to be another nostalgia pandering cash grab, but no... definitely this is NOT the case.
TMNT:SR goes ahead and innovate things. It still has some elements from TMNT 3 and Turtles in Time arcade/SNES, but the gameplay goes richer and with more variety and depth.
Besides the amazing visuals, incredible pixel art and great soundtrack, I think the main feature of this game is its online co-op, which allow either to make a session with your friends or, the best, make or join public sessions and wreck shit up along 6 players at the same time, giving the perfect arcade co-op vibe where anyone with a quarter in hand can join you. Watch the video below when we went crazy with Mr. Din and other Brawler's Avenue members, t's fun AF!
In general, the game felt amazing since its release and the learning curve to the most advanced aspects of the gameplay isn't hard to get. This is the BTU we were looking for: SOR4 might have brought official non-fan 2D BTUs back (held for so many years by Streets of Rage Remake), River City Girls reaffirmed it, but this is the true perfection in the modern BTU without losing their 90's root inspiration.
So, what are your impressions so far?

Great review. I'm going to play it. Hope they release a physical edition.
