4-Player Support?
Hi guys. I grabbed SORR back in April of 2011 and played for a few hours and put it away (friendly CPU was atrocious.. I see 5.1 fixes this a lot, so I'm back). I'm curious to know if there's a mod that allows 4-players (local). My girlfriend and roommate would love this game but then one of us would always be left out since IIRC it's only 2-player. Thanks!

Sadly, no. The modding community limited to adding new levels, items(including breakable items), and if you play your cards right, enemies(which is something the community is in the verge of learning how to pull off). Bomberlink doesn't plan on releasing the source code, and the files are encrypted for some reason. So, sorry to say, but there's not much we can do for you.

Re: 4-Player Support?
Perhaps you're right, graylandertagger. The maximum number of players are allowed in Streets of Rage Remake is two, like most retro video games in the 20th Century that permit multiplayer participation. The reason why Bomberlink (the author of said program) decided to keep the source code private so that no-one will try to modify certain parts of the game's internal contents, claiming it as their own project.graylandertagger wrote:Sadly, no. I wouldn't say sadly, we can pretty much edit everything that matters in the game. To be honest I wouldn't even care if we weren't able to edit characters (which we are to an extent).graylandertagger wrote:Sadly, no. You guys ask for 4 player not taking into account that SoR (except maybe SoR1) wasn't built to be a 4 player game and seeing that SoRR is built off of the last two entries of the series, a 4 player mode wouldn't be very fun even 2 player on it's own can be chaotic.

Some people like to eat the same food everyday, others don't. Point being, everyone is different (want different things).
I think the player vs player mode could be quite fun four player.. the main game however would be too hectic... But, it could have its place in the game...
The answer though is, no, it is 99% that it will never happen.

Re: 4-Player Support?
A 4 player beat them up game can work if it was designed this way since the beginning....which is not the case nor for the SOR games nor for SORR V5. 100% affirmative it won't happen.
Best we can hope is that if SOR4 ever happen, it allows such a thing.

Re: 4-Player Support?
When inquiries like this happen, they call to build an (actually good) OpenBOR mod for 4 players. SORR definitely won't.

Re: 4-Player Support?
I don't see how that takes away from my point but I agree. I'm not against 4 player at all especially for versus mode as you proposed but SoRR (nor the main series really) certainly wasn't built for 4 player as far as the main game is concerned and I wouldn't really expect to see it for an offshoot bonus mode like versus.celestinx wrote:Mr.Din wrote:I wouldn't say sadly, we can pretty much edit everything that matters in the game. Good responses, guys, thank you. Some classic beat 'em up-style arcade games were four player, and fantastic as such (The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time, and the run-and-gun Sunset Riders)... I was hoping there'd be a way, but also pondering out loud, I suppose, but it's good to know what the game is capable of. Thanks again!

Remember people, quality over quantity. Even 1 Max alone, or 1 Max + 1 Adam, or 1 Max + 1 Mr.X, or 1 Mr.X + 1 Shiva, can demolish everything on sight! Strength is not in the numbers, no, but in the technique!

Re: 4-Player Support?
Now that you mention it, 5.2 (or a future version) could actually benefit from 4P with the new aspect ratio.
I think it would get a bit too crowded in 4:3.

Re: 4-Player Support?
BennuGD (the actual engine that powers SorR) supports up to 32 joysticks connected to the system.
However, the original author of the SorR code (or someone that has the code) have to add support for more players in the SorR engine (which is, itself, written in BennuGD).
