Unable to Use a Game Pad for 2P

Hey all. I’m having issues with Remake 5.2 setting up a second game pad on my Windows 10 laptop so I can have 2-player game with something other than the keyboard. My laptop recognizes the new game pad in each of the 4 USB ports. But in the game menu under Options>Controls, the 2P option only lets me select Keyboard. The gamepad option is visible, but “grayed out” and unselectable. The 1P works no problem with the same model game pad. Any suggestions? Thanks.
