How to Survival?

Now that enemies can intercept and interrupt you, right in the middle of performing even your best attacks (they can land a hit, even right before your hit lands almost touching the enemy)... How can you survive the survival ordeal? I used to pick Max and start flailing, without worries. But now, not only his staple move's distance got nerfed, but he is no longer the unstoppable beast that he had been, in 5.1! Any suggestions?
